A New Era Begins with GENERATE - Interactive Generative Design

Today we are excited to announce a new release of our GENERATE® software. We are particularly proud of this release, as it ushers in a new era of design – interactive generative design. Born out of a desire to make it easier to work with indeterminate geometry and create manufacture-ready designs faster, GENERATE allows engineers to explore designs previously deemed “not possible,” thus spurring the innovation and creativity needed to meet the requirements of today’s highly complex parts.

Interactive generative design reduces the barriers between design and actual product output by having manufacturability “baked into” the design, creating a result that is manufacturable by default. It enables designers to realize their vision and manufacturers to produce highly complex parts that are lighter, stronger and more efficient. A grand vision, realized.

GENERATE is based on our patented TrueSOLID® generative design engine. Utilizing volumetric geometry, TrueSOLID allows indeterminate geometry to blend together with engineering intent precisely and make what’s impossible to model with surface-based geometry, quick and easy.

Engineers can use GENERATE’s advanced topology optimization and simulation algorithms with real-time interaction to quickly produce high-performing, ready to manufacture mechanical designs.

Designs like this wrench demonstrate both topology optimization and a variable lattice structure called a gyroid. It’s all blending and seamlessly enclosed within the original CAD file.


GENERATE was built from the ground up on a multi-threaded architecture to deliver faster design output by leveraging both CPU and GPU computing optionally. It is windows-based, providing a secure environment for highly sensitive design projects. Designers and engineers simply specify the functional requirements of their design and the design will automatically be modeled to meet those requirements. Design output is functional and does not have to be remodeled in CAD. It truly is life-changing for a time crunched engineer.

A pioneer of generative design, Jesse founded Frustum, Inc. in 2014 to usher in a new paradigm of CAD. Recognized for his expertise, Jesse served as a Columbia University (MSAAD-2010) Researcher & Professor, teaching generative design and programming to hundreds of graduate students. Jesse also worked as a Senior Optimization Engineer at Autodesk Research for Additive Manufacturing and Aerospace applications. His work included leading the Optimization of the Airbus 2050 concept plane. As CEO of Frustum, Inc., Jesse has enjoyed growing a profitable and innovative company by establishing strong relationships, commercial agreements and OEM partnerships.
